From Mr. Elisha’s dancing with drum circle, to choir’s rendition of Shawn Mendes’s “Stitches”, to the Ramaz band and Gabrielle Silverberg’s performance of “Living on a Prayer”, this year’s Ram Jam was one for the books.
Ram Jam is a highlight of the school year for both performers who get to show off their musical talents to the entire school, and the riveted audience who gets to enjoy the show. Gabrielle Silverberg (‘25), who sang both with choir and the Ramaz Band, said “I’ve been a part of Ram Jam since my freshman year with the choir, and it’s been a super fun experience to perform, and this year I was lucky enough to perform with choir and the band which was so cool because we got the opportunity to close the show. I love Ram Jam because it’s such a great experience for the students to get to see what the performing arts clubs have been doing and see how talented the student body is. Everyone gets really into it which makes it so nice and even nicer for the performers who enjoy getting to perform with that kind of spirit. Every performance was great and this year, what I especially loved that was different, is that someone from a different club introduced each act, which shows how we are all one big musical family and I love that”. Ram Jam is unique not only for the incredible music the students perform, but for the excited atmosphere it creates. In a difficult and unusual year, Ram Jam was an uplifting event where students could smile, laugh, and, for a short amount of time, forget about the atrocities going on in the world right now. And an event like that was exactly what the students needed.
This year’s Ram Jam received high praise from all, some calling it the best one of their time at Ramaz. Thea Katz (‘25) said “I actually really enjoyed Ram Jam this year, probably the most I ever have. I thought every performance was really good and they were all different so I wasn’t bored”. However, one thing that perplexed the students was the seemingly shorter time span of this year’s assembly. Sylvie Pagovitch ‘25, said “it was good music and performing, but it felt shorter than other years. My favorite part was the choir’s performance”. Whether, as the saying goes, time flew because we were having fun, or this year’s Ram Jam was in fact shorter than usual, students left wanting more music and more fun. Despite some students yearning for more, this year’s Ram Jam was an incredible celebration of Ramaz’s talented students unlikely to be forgotten.
